The Indian government established the Valley of Flowers National Park in 1980. It was recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2002.
It is located at Chamoli District of Uttarakhand. Its altitude range is between 3352 metres to 3658 metres above the sea level. It extends to an area of 87.50 sq. km. Valley Of Flowers trek is a moderate level trek. It is a slightly longer and a steep incline to Hemkund Sahib that will challenge your constancy. The trek starts from Govindghat for which one has to come to Rishikesh which lies at the foothills of the Himalayas and is your gateway to the Garhwal region.

Best Time to visit
The best time to visit Flower Valley Trek is between July and September.
In July, one can expect a lot of lush green scenery but there won’t be many flowers until mid-July. The trek extends to a high altitude of 14,000 ft which is why it retains snow even in July. Rain washes off the snow by the end of July and monsoon starts setting. Flowers start blooming from mid-July onwards by making mid July the most favourable time to experience the trek. In August, monsoon washes over the entire valley and it becomes the peak time of blooming of flowers. Brahma Kamal is a rare flower that grows only around the altitude of 14,000 feet. One can see this rare sight while climbing up to Hemkund. This is the perfect time to explore the valley and gifts of mother nature.
The valley is filled with 300 different types of flowers and one gets the chance to witness the vivid flora and fauna of the region. The different species like saxifrages, sediams, lilies, blue poppy, calendula, daisies, and dog flowers can be seen around. You get to see the famous Hathi Parvat and Saptarishi while trekking. The holy nature and spiritualism sensed at Hemkund Sahib makes the trek more fulfilling and once in a lifetime kind of experience.
